Lettuce and Spinach

Trying to grow some edibles in our flat is something I’ve been meaning to try for many years. Well I’ve finally got round to it!

With a little help from various websites working out what I could grow given the lateness in year (late May/early June) I settled on Little Gem Lettuce and Spinach. Neither of which seem to last long when purchased from the supermarket so a ready supply of fresh salad leaves would be great!

Planted the seeds in troughs on 27th May, a week later the Lettuce was showing and a couple of days after that the spinach made an appearance.

Gem lettuce seedlings, aren’t they cute?

The Gem Lettuce I have growing is from Shelled Warriors via Amazon. Given the range of products they sell I guess the name is related to their interest in tortoises.

This Perpetual Spinach is supposed to keep growing all year so hopefully we’ll have an abundant supply of greens year round.
