Gerbera daisy flower

Gerbera daisy

Sometime in spring 2020 I bought an attractive little plant with a bright yellow flower. Thought it might brighten up the flat a bit.

Turns out it’s a Gerbera daisy, possibly Gerbera jamesonii but I could be wrong. If someone is able to confirm in the comments that’d be lovely. I digress.

So it seems the Gerbera daisy likes well drained substrate, so we are only watering when the top cm or two feel dry. Feeding monthly.

Since adopting that regime it seems the plant is looking quite healthy, with a large yellow flower that seems to be lasting well but also a bunch of flower buds coming up.

Yellow Gerbera daisy flower : double header

Recently it’s grown what I can only describe as a double header flower stem. No idea it this is normal for Gerbera plants but I’m hoping it means the care we’re giving it is ok.

I’m particularly curious at how the petals on each flower are shorter on the adjoining edge than the rest. I wonder if this is an adaptation to avoid overlap or if it’s just a misshapen bloom.
